Summary/Abstract: Phraseology reflects the historical, cultural, and religious development of a people, with biblical idioms (biblicisms) forming a distinct group that includes direct quotations, allusions, and pseudo-biblicisms. This article examines Ukrainian–Slovak parallels in biblical phraseology, focusing on language play as a means of shaping both direct and indirect biblicisms. Using specialized dictionaries, the study applies descriptive, comparative, and componential analysis to trace mechanisms of semantic and stylistic transformation, such as metaphor, antonymy, phonetic play, and onomastic wordplay. Particular attention is given to indirect biblicisms, which reveal national variations on biblical themes and creative adaptations of sacred texts. The findings show that while both languages share common biblical sources, their phraseological repertoires differ in form, semantics, and stylistic coloring, reflecting distinct cultural perceptions and highlighting the role of linguistic play in the functioning of biblicisms.
