Summary/Abstract: This study is focused on the pure – impure opposition in the history of Bulgarian literature with special emphasis on impure people. In this study, we set ourselves the task of analyzing the manifestations of cultural and linguistic syncretism in the semantics and nominations of impure people in selected works from the 10th to the 18th century. The linguistic material is considered in relation to ethnographic and folkloric principles within the context of folk culture, where we find explanations of impure beings, impure powers, and impure individuals.
