Summary/Abstract: The article examines the main trends in the development of Slovak Slavic studies, which became decisive for the emergence of the Slavica Slovaca journal and the formation of its scientific profile and editorial concept. An attempt was made to provide a chronological cross-section of the journal’s subject matter and to analyze the dynamics of its development, taking into account the influence of political and administrative factors. It is emphasized that interdisciplinarity was embedded in the concept of Slavic studies from the very beginning and was present in the journal long before the term appeared. Particular attention is paid to major scientists who influenced the appearance of the journal, and primarily to Professor Ján Doruľa, whose scientific and administrative activities determined the central concept of both the journal itself and the entire Slavic studies in Slovakia.
