Violence and Social Media: The Amplification of Antisemitism on X (formerly Twitter) Post Elon Musk’s Acquisition

Summary/Abstract: The study focuses on the transformation of the Twitter platform following its acquisition by Elon Musk. Through desk research, we examine how cost reductions and the declared support for freedom of speech influence the spread of anti- Semitic posts. We find that content moderation on platform X remains predominantly reactive. Based on a case study, we illustrate a real- life case associated with the spread of extremist speech. The authors also identify key factors contributing to the escalation of antisemitic narratives on Platform X.
