Summary/Abstract: The paper addresses topics related to autonomous learning understood as self-directed-learning.The main focus will be on tutorials – types of texts supporting learning without the help of a teacher,which started to appear with the advent of the 19th century. The aim of this study is to show the originsof self-directed-learning, as well as a general characterisation – using selected examples – of the widerange of texts designed for autonomous learning in many areas of life. This issue furthermore fits intothe field of text linguistics research.
