Summary/Abstract: This article revisits the issue of the late transfers of St. Paraskeva’s relics, as reflected by a well-known illustration from Metropolitan Barlaam’s Gospel Homiliary. Printed in 1643, the book was richly illustrated by the famous Ruthenian engraver Ilia. The discussed image reflects contemporary Moldavian realities, as the recent transfer of St. Paraskeva to Iași in 1641. Compared to the saint’s previous tradition of representation, the engraving features an unusual selection of translatio scenes. The deeper meanings of the engraving and the ideological implications of the translation are revealed within the larger context of the history of St. Paraskeva’s relics.
