Summary/Abstract: The article summarizes selected serious cases identified by the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) during inspections of food supplements on the Czech market. Each year, CAFIA investigates numerous cases where prohibited, hazardous or undeclared substances have been detected in food supplements, including pharmacologically active ingredients (sildenafil, yohimbine), psychoactive compounds (THC, HHC), and heavy metals. The paper presents examples of products posing significant health risks to consumers, such as excessive levels of amygdalin, mercury, or delta-9-THC. It also highlights the wider consequences of these findings, including the activation of the EU Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) and regulatory action against illegal online sales. The findings underline the importance of strict control and international cooperation in ensuring the safety of food supplements, which are not subject to premarket approval, and protecting consumer health.
