Summary/Abstract: Aladzha Monastery, a prominent medieval rock-hewn site near Varna, is afflicted by widespread, uncritically circulating interpretations, stemming from incomplete and often erroneous factual data. This article addresses this fundamental issue by focusing on identifying 20th-century architectural interventions sometimes mistaken for original features. Archival data confirms partial modifications, including rock-cutting and the construction of caretaker’s rooms, severely altered the authentic forms, particularly in the lower floor’s eastern chambers. This research aims to establish a more accurate factual foundation for future scientific analysis, conclusively demonstrating the site remains an underexplored academic topic.
