Summary/Abstract: Lev Prchala returned to Czechoslovakia in August 1920 and enlisted in the army. He was first posted to Paris, where he attended the War College from 1921 to 1923. Upon his return, he became commander of the 1st Mountain Brigade in Ružomberok. In September 1925, he was promoted to brigadier general and became commander of the 12th Infantry Division in Uzhhorod. At the end of 1931, he was appointed Deputy Chief of the General Staff. In 1933, he was a leading candidate for the position of Chief of the General Staff, but ultimately he was not selected, instead becoming the provincial military commander in Košice. In 1936, he was promoted to army general and participated in the largest military manoeuvres. In September 1938, he moved to Brno, and after the mobilisation was declared, he became commander of the Fourth Army, responsible for defending southern Moravia. In early October 1938, he took command of the Third Army in Slovakia and Carpathian Ruthenia. After mobilisation ended in December 1938, he became the provincial military commander in Bratislava. In January 1939, he became a member of the autonomous government in Carpathian Ruthenia, a position he held until the Hungarian occupation in March 1939.
