Summary/Abstract: Religion is a phenomenon integrally related to the culture and society in which it has emerged and operates. It accepts the ideas and attitudes that are present in them. However, on these ideas it imposes its own meanings and changes them according to requirements. Because it relates to identity and perception, religion competes with science for explanatory and interpretative hegemony. One example is the attitude towards medicine. Pentecostalism has included health issues in its own theoretical and practical universe and made it an important part of its activities. It has developed a diverse approach to clinical medicine. The development of clinical medicine was also dependant on internal changes within the discipline itself and, more broadly, in science. One factor that strengthens non-clinical approaches is the organisation of health care in the United States, which excludes many social groups, forcing them to use alternative methods of treatment.
