Summary/Abstract: Social activities play a significant role in enhancing the mental and physical health of elderly, contributing to their emotional stability, sense of belonging and overall quality of life. Creating different forms of content in the institutional environment that encourages the activity of elderly has multiple benefits, which is why such content should be carefully designed and adapted to their needs, interests and capabilities. The primary goal of this research is to analyze user’s preferences, focusing on motivational factors, existing opportunities and barriers that influence their participation. The research was conducted in the public and private residential care facilities for the elderly in the Sarajevo Canton, using a quantitative methodology that includes conducting surveys with users and professionals who work directly with them, considering key variables. The findings indicate that majority service users recognize the importance of social activities, but that their participation is often limited by health issues, lack of interest and inadequate conditions within the institutions. On the other hand, professionals emphasize challenges such as low user motivation, lack of financial resources, human resource capacities, limited spatial capacities and inadequate adjustment to the users' needs.
