Summary/Abstract: The coin collection of Ioan Mihály of Apșa from Sighetu Marmației ‒ comprising over 1,000 pieces ‒ is considered lost. However, two manuscript notebooks have survived, describing 138 ancient coins that were part of the collection. These coins have been classified and studied using modern methods. Most of them align with ancient monetary context of the region, while others are exotic presences. Some pieces originate from well known archaeological sites, and 47 belong to the great monetary hoard from Teceu (Hungarian: Tecső), which is also lost. These materials contribute to the understanding of the ancient civilization in the northwestern part of Dacia, as well as to the history of modern Transylvanian culture, particularly through the phenomenon of archaeological and numismatic collections.
