Summary/Abstract: The hoard from Măgirești was discovered by chance in the spring of 1968, at the “Dealul Bisericii” site in the center of the village. At that time, the coins were divided into several batches, which ended up in the collections of various museums in Moldova: Iași (batch I – 134 pcs.), Bacău (batch II – 21 pcs.), and Onești (batch III – 13 pcs.). In 2013, Marius Ioan Irimia discovered another 22 coins (batch IV) with the help of a metal detector, which are now in the Museum in Piatra-Neamț. In October 2017, the same person handed over another 58 coins (batch V) to the Museum in Bacău, which were also found following detection. Our paper presents this last batch consisting of Roman imperial denarii, bearing the effigies of the following emperors: Nero (1 pc.), Vitellius (1 pc.), Vespasianus et sui (9 pcs.), Titus et sui (2 pcs.), Domitianus (5 pcs.), Nerva (1 pc.), Traianus (17 pcs.), Hadrianus (7 pcs.), Antoninus Pius et sui (13 pcs.) and Marcus Aurelius et sui (2 pcs.). In its current form, the Măgirești hoard contains 248 coins (one of which has been lost). In terms of composition and chronological structure, it belongs to the A series of Roman imperial hoards discovered in western Moldavia, which ends in the time of Marcus Aurelius. Lastly, we’re trying to prove that the hoard from Măgirești was buried due to the arrival of Germanic peoples in the territory east of the Carpathians in the last decades of the 2nd century AD.
