Summary/Abstract: This essay draws a parallel between the glorious past of Muslim nations—when the Ummah held cultural and civilizational superior domination over the world—and the present age, marked by weakness, inertia, lack of freedom, and decline of these nations. It examines how devotion to knowledge, love of books, and preservation of learning once served as the foundation of greatness, whereas the abandonment of books and submission to false and unreliable representations of the world have contributed, among other factors, to the overall stagnation and marginalization of Muslims in global affairs. Rejecting and neglecting the Book—the essential principle of communal life—has transformed the Ummah from a leader into a follower that blindly and uncritically adopts alien and illusory values, while forgetting the first verse of the Divine Book, which continues to call upon us today as it always has.
