Summary/Abstract: On the occasion of the millennium of the completion of Ibn Sina’s Canon of Medicine, celebrated in 2025, this text provides an overview of his life and works, as well as the history of earlier commemorations: one thousand years since his birth according to the Hijri calendar (370–1370) and the Gregorian calendar (980–1980), and the anniversary of the beginning of the Canon’s composition (2012). The paper highlights Ibn Sina’s universal significance, whose contributions have been recognized both in the East and the West — including the issuing of a UNESCO commemorative medal in his honor. The text also presents the reflection of Ibn Sina’s teachings in Rumi’s Mathnawi, particularly through the famous story “The King and the Slave Girl,” which exemplifies the integration of medicine and spirituality in his thought. The discussion underscores the enduring relevance of The Canon of Medicine in contemporary medical education and ethics. As the year 2037 — the millennium of his death — approaches, it calls for a renewed contemplation of Ibn Sina’s global intellectual and spiritual legacy.
