Summary/Abstract: Hadith represents the second primary source of our faith. Without hadith, the performance of ritual practices (prayer, fasting, zakat, pilgrimage, etc.) would be impossible. In addition to this ritualpractical dimension, hadith also possesses a profound spiritual and moral dimension. Therefore, all tendencies throughout history, and even today, that revolve around the idea of Ahl al-Qur’an -— only the Qur’an or the Qur’an is sufficient — are extremely dangerous. In the field of hadith science, the Muslim scholarly genius has devoted most of its intellectual effort to verifying the authenticity of hadiths and classifying them according to their reliability, while comparatively less attention has been given to their interpretation and the elucidation of the meanings of their textual and practical forms. This paper focuses on one specific category of hadith — da‘īf or weak hadith — with special emphasis on one of its subtypes, the mursal hadith. The aim of this study is to define these concepts and to examine the status of this particular type of hadith within the framework of argumentation in matters of faith.
