Summary/Abstract: Islam was introduced to Bosnia and Herzegovina with the Ottoman conquest, and since then the Muslims of Bosnia and Herzegovina have followed the Maturidi school in matters of creed (ʿaqīdah) and the Hanafi school in jurisprudence (fiqh). Our scholars have remained consistent in adhering to this Ahl al-Sunna tradition. During both the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian administrations, as well as throughout the period of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the literature studied in Bosnia and Herzegovina was based on classical Ahl al-Sunna works of theology, with strong emphasis placed on Maturidi doctrine. The same continues to this day in the curricula of madrasas and faculties under the Islamic Community. Our intellectuals such as Hasan Kafi Pruščak, Ahmed-ef. Bejadi-zade, Mustafa Ejubović – Shaykh Jujo, Mehmed Handžić, Abdurahman Adil Čokić, Ahmed Smajlović, and many others have, through their scholarly work, demonstrated unwavering fidelity to the centuriesold tradition of interpreting Islam according to the principles of Maturidi theology.
