Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we etymologized the oriental lexeme hikmet (ḥikma), provided a semantic description, and confirmed the polysemy of this lexeme both in the source language and in the recipient language — Arabic / Bosnian. Furthermore, we analyzed how the meanings of the lexeme hikmet and other related words are interpreted in dictionaries and lexicons, described their role as orientalisms in the Bosnian language, and explained how some contemporary scholars of Islamic philosophy interpret hikmet, as well as how it is explained in the magazine Hik( j)met. The paper also highlights the connection between the secondary meanings of the lexeme hikmet and the meanings of other lexemes derived from the same root (ḥkm) with the primary meaning of the given oriental lexeme (ḥikma: wisdom).
