Summary/Abstract: This review discusses a 923-page compendium on discourse linguistics published in 2024, analysing and evaluating its academic and practical value. The work has a clear structure, comprising an introduction and a main section divided into seven parts dealing with selected aspects and specific issues in discourse linguistics. The thematically homogeneous parts contain 68 articles. The articles were written by researchers from various universities in Poland and are designed as independent texts with references. The introductory articles deal with the philosophical origins of discourse, while the chapter „Diskurs und linguistische Teildisziplinen und Methoden“ discusses the interfaces between discourse analysis and twelve linguistic subdisciplines (pragmatics, sociolinguistics, text linguistics and stylistics) and two research methods (content analysis and conversation analysis). The chapter „Diskurs und linguistische Kategorien“ examines selected categories from a discourse linguistic perspective. This part deals with general categories from communication studies (discourse and communication, discourse and communication strategies) as well as linguistic units (sign, text, text types and proper name) and their qualitative characteristics (style, meaning, metaphor, lexical meaning, etc.). Other parts of the volume address the issue of cultural categories (values, identity, collective memory and stereotypes) as well as media and different areas of life (religion, law, art, sport, politics, etc.) from a discourse perspective. The compendium is the first Polish overview publication in the field of discourse linguistics and is expected to enjoy great popularity in research and teaching due to its complexity, topicality, synthetic presentation and numerous references.
