Summary/Abstract: The rapid advancement of digital technologies over the past decades has profoundly transformed the nature of language-related professions, redefining both the status and the scope of translator competences. In the field of translation, these changes stem primarily from the widespread adoption of computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, translation memory systems, and neural machine translation (NMT) technologies. This article explores the evolution of the concept of translator competence in the context of technological transformation and its implications for translation practice and pedagogy. The analysis is based on Krzysztof Łoboda’s monograph „Tłumacz w cyfrowym świecie. Kompetencje techniczne tłumacza w praktyce i dydaktyce przekładu tekstów specjalistycznych“ (2024), which offers an integrated account of the role of technology in translation and education. The study juxtaposes established competence models (PACTE, EMT) with the author’s empirical findings, demonstrating a shift from linguistic-cultural competences toward complex technological and process-oriented skills. The contemporary translator is viewed as an active participant in a multifaceted technological ecosystem, combining the roles of an analyst, editor, and information manager. Technical competences – defined as proficiency in digital tools, understanding of translation systems, and the ability to critically assess their outputs – have become a core component of professional translator identity. The article argues that translator education should encompass not only technical training but also critical reflection on the epistemological and ethical implications of artificial intelligence in translation. Consequently, a model of translation didactics is proposed that integrates linguistic, cognitive, ethical, and technological competences, aligning with current trends in translation studies and intercultural communication in the digital era.
