Summary/Abstract: This study examines the challenges of translating written communication, historical letters, especially the correspondence between Professor Çabej and the researcher Babinger from 1963. The aim is to analyze the difficulties in translating such letters and to shed light on the effects of linguistic and cultural differences on translation quality. The study draws on academic literature from the disciplines of linguistics, communication and translation studies, and uses several methodological approaches. A central method is the analysis of translation strategies, which differentiates between naturalizing and alienating translation, and adaptive and transferring translation. This differentiation helps to understand the different approaches to overcoming linguistic and cultural barriers. Another methodological approach is the contextualization of the correspondence. This involves a detailed examination of the historical, cultural and social contexts to better understand the challenges of translation. The specific historical circumstances and cultural backgrounds of Çabej and Babinger are considered. In addition, a comparative analysis of the original text passages and their translations is carried out in order to identify and evaluate differences and challenges in the translation. This method makes it possible to shed light on specific translation problems and their solutions. Finally, a qualitative assessment of the translations is made in terms of their ability to preserve the nuances and intended meaning of the source text in the target language. This assessment shows that successful translations require not only linguistic accuracy but also a deep understanding of the cultural and historical contexts. The paper illustrates the complexity of translating historical letters and emphasizes that a successful translation must take into account not only linguistic but also cultural and historical contexts. The study highlights that translators need comprehensive knowledge of the source and target languages as well as the respective cultures to ensure accurate and culturally appropriate translation. These findings provide valuable insights for translation practice and the scientific analysis of historical documents.
