Studying German in Albania. Tendencies and Problems

Summary/Abstract: In this article, we will critically examine programmes in German at universities in Tirana and Shkodra. After a general, but historically-grounded, introduction to German Studies in Albania, we will discuss basic structural elements such as the content of the three-year programmes in Tirana and Shkodra. In this contribution, special emphasis is given to the current challenges for Programmes in German with respect to the law following the last university reform. Because of our many years of teaching activity and experience in this area, we aim above all to provide a multifaceted view of the problems, tendencies and prospects for Programmes in German in Tirana and Shkodra. Our considerations represent an attempt to continue or revive the international discussion on this topic.
