Summary/Abstract: Translation of the first essay from Claude Romano’s collection of essays, published in 2010 under the title L’aventure temporelle. It is an introduction to what constitutes, from the point of view of phenomenology and the history of philosophy, an “event” that carries with it its own hermeneutic possibilities. The event does not take place in the world, but opens up a new world to man. The phenomenology of the event cannot accept the traditional concept of the subject identical with itself in the midst of life changes. It considers the “subject” as something that emerges and becomes itself from events and through events. This is a suitable introduction to reading Romano’s important books L’Événement et le Monde (1998) and L’Événement et le Temps (1999).
