Summary/Abstract: The text discusses the use of computer tools to analyse the emotional overtones of adverbadjective collocations. The authors highlight the two-dimensionality of emotion in language: expressed by inherent linguistic properties or communicative context. The research project involves the analysis of emotional overtones based on data from text corpora in order to detect regularities in the expression of emotions. The methodology involves the use of NLP tools that automate and objectify the emotion identification process. The aim of the research is to develop reliable procedures for emotion identification that can be applied to the analysis of different aspects of language functioning. This project is a pilot phase of a larger undertaking carried out by a team of researchers from two Polish universities. This text discusses its initial phase and provides an introduction to two further related articles.
