Summary/Abstract: Compared to the Bulgarian language, which has (at least) five participles, the German language is downright "poor" in terms of participles - only two. This discrepancy leads to problems in teaching and mastering German participles by Bulgarian learners. The difficulties are also caused by the dual nature of participles – they are verb forms that have characteristics of nouns: for example, they can participate in the formation of a predicate or be used as determiners. This article aims to present German participles in comparison with Bulgarian ones, by describing and analyzing their forms, ways of formation and cases of use, as well as to offer options for translating German participles in different contexts in Bulgarian
