Summary/Abstract: Volunteering is a key tool for personal and professional development throughout life. For young people, and especially for students, participation in volunteer activities provides an opportunity to expand their social networks, create contacts and relations that can be extremely useful for their future career, while at the same time gaining practical experience and opportunities for informal education. In addition, it contributes to the development of key soft skills in modern society such as communication, organization, teamwork, leadership and conflict resolution. An important role of universities is to direct the volunteer potential of students by initiating various volunteer causes and, at the same time, develop the social responsibility of the university as an institution. The goal of this study is to reveal, assess and analyze the motives that would prompt students from the UNWE to participate in volunteer activities. The research used data from an empirical study of the UNWE students’ overall attitude towards volunteering. The study was conducted during the period March - May 2024 and covers 463 students, selected through a representative sample. Based on factor analysis, general groups of motives were identified. The degree to which different factors are potential motivators for students was analyzed. Specific differences in the motivation of individual groups, formed by socio-demographic and other characteristics, were highlighted.
