Summary/Abstract: Based on archaeological data, in the 9th-11th centuries, substantial changes are recorded in the Carpathian-Dniester area on the economic and socio-political level. During this period, a significant demographic increase in the population is observed, illustrated by the accelerated growth in the number of settlements and their sizes. At the same time, in this area, an intense process of establishing regional territorial-political formations is noted, the phenomenon being documented by the settlements concentrated in well-delimited groups from a historical- geographical point of view and by the multiple fortified settlements that emerged in these contexts. The amplification of the process of socio-economic differentiation and the formation of political elites within com- munities in the 9th-11th centuries is also illustrated by the rapid development of agriculture, crafts and trade, as evidenced by numerous hoards of agricultural implements, craft tools and weapons, hoards of Arab coins and silverware, some dwellings in settlements, as well as fairly rich grave goods.
