Summary/Abstract: Operating in Poland by the end of 2009, the system of earmarked funds for environmental protection and water management included National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, voivodeship funds, poviats funds and district funds. On 1st January 2010 district’s and poviat’s funds were liquidated. Tasks which they had financed became tasks directly financed from district’s and poviat’s budgets. The main aim of this article is to show the role played by those funds in financing environmental protection and water management in Poland. The article also points out the consequences of their liquidation for the whole system of financing environment protection in Poland.
