Summary/Abstract: Obesity is a global health problem. It is associated with reduced quality of life, functional limitations and an increased risk of chronic diseases, including diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal disorders and some cancers. The main factors leading to overweight and obesity include excessive caloric intake and a sedentary lifestyle. Regular physical activity is recognized as an effective prevention and treatment strategy, improving body composition, physical fitness and mental health. Pilates is emerging as a popular form of physical activity that combines mental focus, breathing techniques and exercises for strength, flexibility and coordination. This review synthesizes the current evidence on the effects of Pilates on quality of life, cardiometabolic health, physical condition and mental well being in obese individuals. Objective: To synthesize current scientific evidence on the use and effects of Pilates exercises on quality of life, physical function, and mental health in obese individuals, highlighting the potential of this method as a preventive and therapeutic strategy. Methodology: A literature review of publications and clinical trials investigating the effect of Pilates exercises in obese individuals was conducted. Conclusion: Pilates training is a safe and effective strategy for overweight and obese individuals, leading to improvements in body composition, physical fitness, and cardiometabolic markers. Additional randomized trials are needed to evaluate the effects on a wide range of health indicators and develop recommendations for widespread use.
