The Stature of Czesław Miłosz from the Perspective of the Reception of Polish and Central European Literature in China

Summary/Abstract: Czesław Miłosz, as a representative of both Polish and world poetry in China, has gainedrecognition among Chinese poets who appreciate his verses for their ability to connectpoetry with reality. This concept is a key element of his poetic theory. Although Miłoszis an inspiring figure for some Chinese poets, the overall reception of his work in Chinaremains limited. The article analyzes the situation of translations of his works as wellas the opinions of Chinese readers about the poet. Miłosz’s image in China is complex,and his works are interpreted in the context of local experiences and values. The authorattempts to answer the question regarding the distinctive image of Miłosz in the eyesof Chinese audiences, leading to a conclusion about the significance of his work in theinternational literary discourse.
