Summary/Abstract: This text explores the role of the sublime in Kant’s transcendental philosophy. The author argues that the sublime is a key concept, present even in Kant’s pre-critical phase, and later gaining deeper significance beyond aesthetics within his critical system. The focus is on a transcendental analysis of the faculties involved in judgments of the sublime-imagination and reason-and their moral implications. Central to the argument is the notion of ‘pleasure through displeasure,’ where the imagination’s failure to grasp the absolute evokes a sense of inner defeat. Yet this failure awakens the subject’s awareness of its own inner strength-an indomitable power that resists all forces of nature. Thus, the sublime becomes a gateway to realizing the boundless moral potential of the self.
