Summary/Abstract: In the present article, a method of limiting adjacent word quantity in word formation that has hitherto been overlooked in the literature, specifically in the formation of diminutives in the neuter gender in contemporary standard Slovak, primarily with the help of the derivational suffix -ko. The non-quantitative-quantitative variation -e/-ie and -0/-ie is linked to the group of consonants such as dl, tl, tn, bl, kl, kn, zn, sl, sm, dn, dr, which includes a voiced or voiceless fricative consonant in combination with an unpaired sonorant consonant and standing immediately before the diminutive suffix -ko. This specific method of limiting quantity in word formation belongs to the area of rhythmic law in Slovak. As a progressive type of limiting quantity in a word or form, it is a fixed and, at the same time, the most characteristic part of the broader law of word quantity in standard Slovak.
