Summary/Abstract: The experience of speech-language pathologists and teachers shows that more and more children in preschool and younger school grades need speech therapy due to problems with correct speech sound production. It seems that currently the assessment and treatment of speech sound disorders most often focuses on anatomical-functional causes, especially within the framework of myofunctional therapy. However, perceptual and phonological conditions, which are important not only for speech, but also for literacy, are less often considered. One possible reason for this may be the paucity of tools to reliably assess the level of phonological skills of children with speech sound disorders, which makes it difficult to plan appropriate therapy. The purpose of this article is to provide background on a newly developed tool for assessing short-term and working phonological memory as well as phonological planning as a new dimension of phonological skills.
