Summary/Abstract: The process of learning a foreign language is not always a very smooth one for students and it is essential to better understand the factors which might represent an obstacle when trying to acquire a language different from the mother tongue. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the teacher’s role in handling the underlying aspects of learning a foreign language and, more specifically, the important part the teacher plays in students’ perception of the whole process of studying a new language. Many learners experience foreign language anxiety (FLA), a complex phenomenon which appears in all languages and which might prevent them from being fully involved in class, from participating in various activities and, in the end, from achieving their goals. The teacher-student interaction is extremely significant from this point of view, given that a relationship in which the teacher is seen as helpful might reduce FLA and, as a result, might represent a noteworthy factor when trying to understand students’ behavior in class. Therefore, the present study supplements the existing body of research and proposes potential clarifications in the investigation of the topic.
