Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the present study is to provide an examination of foreign language anxiety (with English as the language under scrutiny) within the student population in Romania, with a particular focus on investigating this phenomenon among military students. Foreign Language Anxiety (FLA) is a complex phenomenon of increasing importance, especially in light of the fact that academic and professional performance are closely intertwined with English language proficiency nowadays, when knowledge of this language can unlock numerous opportunities. Identifying the level of FLA and the potential factors contributing to a low level may represent a significant direction of the educational process. From this standpoint, the present study included 441 participants aged between 18 and 55, whose FLA level was measured using the ELCAS-R instrument. The research results showed that the level of foreign language anxiety varies according to the students’ field of study (p < .05, ω² = .08), highlighting the importance of addressing the topic from the perspective of managing foreign language classes differently depending on the students’ field of study.
