Summary/Abstract: The rapid rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI), with tools like ChatGPT, has profoundly reshaped tertiary education, prompting a critical re-evaluation of pedagogical practices, assessment methods, and institutional policies. This article aims to examine some of the generative AI’s multifaceted impact, exploring its potential to enhance personalized learning and discipline-specific instruction, while addressing ethical challenges related to academic integrity, equity, and cultural bias. Drawing on global research, including multinational studies and institutional case studies, the analysis highlights how AI disrupts traditional assessments, requiring innovative redesigns that balance authenticity with technological integration. By looking into empirical evidence and theoretical insights, the article argues that generative AI’s transformative potential depends on evidence-based, inclusive strategies that respect educational values. Educational institutions using these approaches can optimally deal with AI’s challenges in order to create reliable learning environments, even redefining higher education for the 21st century.
