Summary/Abstract: The proposed topic is part of a complex discourse concerning the way Jews learn about God. Traditionally, from the Old Testament through the various non-canonical texts to the rabbinic tradition, Jews have been assumed to teach a single God. In recent decades, this view has come under criticism. Many writers, including Jewish theologians, share the view that in Jewish contexts there have been traditions that recognize the presence of a so-called “second power“. It is in this connection that the personality of Jacob has become part of this discussion. Many writers express the opinion that he was deified. That is why the proposed text is committed to texts that are directly and indirectly relevant to this issue. I have tried to show that they can be interpreted differently. I believe that the proposed texts that speak of Jacob‘s heavenly existence or pre-existence must be understood metaphorically. Rather, the authors sought to show the important mission that Israel as a nation fulfills. Therefore, not Jacob as a person, but Jacob/Israel as a people are the focus of the interpreted texts.
