Summary/Abstract: This study aims to investigate the feasibility of South African private healthcare operators monetising and utilising their extensive real estate portfolios as an alternative growth strategy. The insights gained from the study are crucial in determining if monetisation serves as an additional resource or a feasible alternative strategy for the South African healthcare industry. Qualitative research was conducted, during which data was gathered through in-depth interviews in the South African private healthcare industry. The research findings indicate that healthcare operators have not yet leveraged and monetised their extensive real estate assets, which possess significant equity value on their balance sheets that could be more effectively utilised to finance their expansion and operational objectives. Consequently, the monetisation of South African private healthcare real estate could serve as a feasible alternative and supplementary source of money for healthcare operators to finance their growth plans and ambitions.
