Summary/Abstract: The number of prepositional expressions in contemporary Montenegrin is steadily increasing, accompanied by their expanding functional range in both syntactic and semantic domains. This development has led to their growing prevalence over traditional prepositions, raising questions about their linguistic legitimacy and communicative efficiency. Despite their widespread usage, prepositional phrases have received scant attention in academic discourse. This study addresses that gap by examining their linguistic features and current status within scholarly and technical literature. Through a critical synthesis of existing theoretical perspectives, the author evaluates the classification and functionality of these non-canonical prepositional forms, aiming to clarify their role in formal registers of language.
