Summary/Abstract: This article is a summary of my doctoral dissertation defended at the Stanisław Wyspiański Academy of Theatre in Krakow under the supervision of Dr Olga Katafiasz. In it, I analyse contemporary approaches to historical theatre, with particular emphasis on the concept of ‘the past as repetition’ based on the ideas of Pierre Nora and Gilles Deleuze, treating it as an alternative to the concepts of (post)memory and revision of historical narratives that dominate the humanities. Through an analysis of my own creative practice, using my performance Arianie as an example, I argue that in theatre, the past can be a pretext for analysing our current experience, rather than an object of judgement or reconstruction.
