The Possibility of Mystical Experience in Primitive Religions

Summary/Abstract: The article seeks to explore primitive religions in terms of mystical experiences. Initially, it presents various approaches to understanding these religions. The analysis focuses on the awareness of primitive peoples concerning the sacredness of time, transcendence, and the myths that permeate their reality. Selected initiation rituals are examined, along with the role of shamanism within these belief systems. It can be concluded that mystical experiences are addressed somewhat indirectly; these religions emphasize specific rituals designed to guide the chosen individual into a state of ecstatic experience.
