Summary/Abstract: This article attempts to reconstruct the development of religious identity among those involved in the pastoral care of the Catholic parish of Christ the King in Reykjavík, Iceland. The dominant research perspective utilized in the article was critical realism, as developed by British sociologist and former President of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, Margaret Archer. The empirical material consisted of interviews with individuals strongly involved in parish life. Analysis of the collected material revealed that, for the interviewees, parish ministry significantly aided in shaping their religious identity. The process of religious identity formation, or, to express it in religious terms, conversion, was reconstructed within the framework of meta-reflexivity proposed by Margaret Archer.
