Summary/Abstract: This paper argues that Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) is an effective method for integrating foreign language teaching with Education for Democratic Competences (EDC), as it combines linguistic proficiency with critical thinking and social awareness. It discusses recent Council of Europe policy documents, such as the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education and the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC), which highlight the importance of multilingualism and democratic competences in foreign language education. The paper also presents case studies to demonstrate how CDA can be applied in foreign language teaching to promote democratic values and intercultural competence.
