Summary/Abstract: Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the leading cause of death among women. Due to the high incidence rate, methods for early detection of breast cancer are increasingly promoted, including breast self-examination, breast ultrasound, and mammography. Fear is an understandable phenomenon in women with breast cancer, the danger is that some women are so overwhelmed with anxiety that they postpone or skip examinations for fear of bad news. The main aim of the research was to examine the presence of fear of breast cancer in relation to the level of concern among women from the general population about developing breast cancer. The study involved 382 respondents in the area of Central Bosnia Canton. Data were collected through an anonymous questionnaire covering general information about the respondents and questions related to breast self-examination, level of concern, and knowledge about breast cancer. The research is quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional, and the obtained data were statistically processed in Excel. More than half of the respondents indicated that they had a fear of developing breast cancer. The leading reason for the presence of fear, as stated by respondents, is that breast cancer is a common disease, causing 65,6% of them to fear it. On the other hand, respondents who do not fear developing the disease cite their reason as not wanting to think about it, at 56,1%. Among respondents who stated they have fear, the most common level of concern is moderate at 43%, while among those who deny the presence of fear, the most common level of concern is low, at 80,2%.
