Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the moral principles for spiritual growth in the text of the Ladder by St. John Climacus. The focus is on obedience as an inner principle of behavior for the Orthodox Christian and as a hermeneutical key to understanding the dynamics of one’s growth in spiritual striving. The place of obedience is sought in the context of our contemporary times.
