Summary/Abstract: This study explores the persuasive strategies and the power of influence employed by fashion critics in their reviews of the 2024 Met Gala. It analyses the works of Brooke Bobb, Tom Fitzgerald, Lorenzo Marquez and Neil Salsbury and identifies key rhetorical techniques used with the main purpose of creating a vivid image of the event, while shaping public opinion on celebrity fashion choices and the messages hidden behind those garments. Through a multi-layered analysis, the research highlights the impact of fashion criticism on public perception and its intersection with social and artistic narratives. It develops the inner layers of such pieces of critique, as well as their depth concerning the influential role that they hold upon the audience. They are meant to generate a specific reaction into the hearts and minds of the audience, as a response to their message. The research that we conducted indicates that the selected pieces of fashion critique were constructed in a logical and clear manner, in which there were identified different sorts of languages, such as descriptive and evaluative, their final aim being the conception of a sort of artistic language, with realistic implicatures in everyday communication through persuasive devices. This particular phenomenon involved integrating elements such as sensory imagery, emotional appeal, rhetorical questions and personal cultural assessment, as their approaches range from detailed and analytical to satirical and comical. Each served a distinct purpose in engaging and influencing the audience.
