Summary/Abstract: In the last decades, researchers focused their interests on analysing the aesthetic or cultural potential of visual arts, its latest forms reaching the peak of popularity among the younger public. Producers directed their attention to anonymous novels or short stories that have been adapted into award-winning films or TV shows that lead to massive discoveries of plots and cultural heritage. Period pieces, representative for visual arts may include two-dimensional and three-dimensional masterpieces, such as paintings, sculptures and films. This article contextualises an example of ekphrasis in a setting of a novel that displays the harsh realities of the late 19th century Canada. This detective story belongs to a series of novels that underwent a whimsical adaptation into a cosy television series that has captivated the Anglophone world. For the applicative part, several examples were extracted from the novel entitled Vices of My Blood, published by the British-Canadian author Maureen Jennings, who chose to elaborate her chronotope around the House of Industry in the 1890s. Contemporary moving pictures exploit the benefits provided by Artificial Intelligence, Computer Generated Images and other apps or mechanisms that enhance some colours and features or compensate the loss of some edifices with accurate replicas that invigorate the audience’s imagination.
