Summary/Abstract: This study is dedicated to analyze the concept of God in Ion Druță’s novel “The White Churchˮ. The research focuses on the means by which this concept is rendered within Druță’s text. To begin, we aim to examine the term ”concept”, which, although widely used in academic writing, still raises certain debates. In this regard, we argue that a concept represents a basic unit of consciousness with a complex structure composed of two layers: the notional layer, which underpins the lexical meaning and is recorded in lexicographic sources, and the cultural layer, which encompasses the connotative meanings of the word-meanings that are, to some extent, reflected in dictionaries. We will analyze the lexicographic definitions of the lexeme ”God” in order to identify the semantic components of the concept, which we will then supplement with the implicit and contextual meanings specific to Druță’s literary style.
