Linguistic Resources in Learner Narratives of Migrant Workers from Transylvania

Summary/Abstract: Second language learning is facilitated by various linguistic resources in case of immigrants. However, migrant workers represent a different group of language learners due to several factors influencing their language learning. The present study examines linguistic resources with the help of learner narratives, exploring the role of different factors revealed by 28 interviews carried out with migrant workers from Transylvania. Access to interactional opportunities and other linguistic resources is mediated by several factors, among which the migrant workers’ job opportunities, social status, linguistic background play an extremely important role.
