Summary/Abstract: This article is part of a series of three papers aimed to describe the conditions under which the theoretical and practical training of reserve infantry officers took place between 1941 and the fall of 1944. The presentation includes information that we consider relevant for understanding the context in which the institutions responsible for training this category of military personnel operated: the mission of the reserve infantry officer schools, the material resources, the members of the teaching staff, the admission exams, the subjects studied, the training sessions, etc. We also noted several problems that have significantly influenced the educational process. In three years, the number of schools tripled and enrolment figures increased significantly, realities that can be understood by the need to ensure better staffing for units that had suffered major losses after the start of Operation Barbarossa. In order to highlight the human dimension of history, oral history sources were used, including interviews with war veterans who had attended courses at various reserve infantry officer schools since 1942. Of those interviewed, four were promoted to Second Lieutenant and fought during the war, while two did not complete their studies due to the events that unfolded after 23 August 1944. The interviews were conducted in several stages between 2018 and 2024 in Muntenia, Moldova and Transylvania. We will provide information about a certain category of military personnel, about whom there are still very few references in Romanian military historiography. We will present a number of issues about the framework in which the training of reserve infantry officers took place, paying particular attention to the 3rd Reserve Infantry Officers School Campulung Muscel and the 4th Reserve Infantry Officers’ School Arad.
